Flick!
2023 ~ Lighting Concept
I run in the mornings. It clears my head and forms my thoughts for the day ahead. Running in the Midwest winters can be bitter cold, but their quietness is almost meditative.
During these months I run in an old hoodie, Rocky style. One January morning was especially rough. Stepping out the door I was struck by the wrenching cold and blinding rays of the rising sun. I flipped my hood up for comfort. Trudging forward I thought about the hoodie and its effect on the elements, “Could that motion be captured in a light?”
I explored this concept. It was fascinating to see how different forms gave the product unique personalities. I wanted a product that captured a playful and expressive quality. With this in mind – I ultimately chose “Flick!”

Concept Development
Early exploration began as quick pen & paper sketches. Once I had a few concepts that met the “hoodie” philosophy, foam concepts were built to look at functionality. These helped to understand how the the forms could be used as a task light during concept reviews.
