Cushion Lamp

2024 ~ Lighting Concept

Cushion Lamp is an exploration into how the form of one object can be applied to another. While looking at the tufting buttons on my desk chair, I sought to capture the “buttons” in a lamp. Although early explorations were centered around the form, I began to consider the function and how it could also be applied to the cushion concept too.

During this time, I stumbled upon the work of Jombus and was inspired by their tile lamp. By using a mechanical keyboard switch, I found that the lamp's “tufting button” could serve as an on/off switch. Dialing in the size, tolerance, and “click” of the switch resulted in an oddly satisfying way to turn the lamp on and off. This, paired with the lamp's soft, cushion-like form, ultimately led to the creation of the Cushion Lamp, which mimics a stack of cushions.
